How autonomous is a choice?
How are we losing our autonomy when our behaviour is predicted with algorithms?
How can film enlarge hidden persuasive aspects in design?
What’s the value of the choice when the options are binary?
These questions are explored in a video essay about autonomy, when human choices become trades. Deriving from a text by Shoshana Zuboff ‘Surveillance capitalism is an assault on human autonomy’. The video is constructed by combining dialogues from Shoshana Zuboff with dialogues from the movies Mr. Nobody (2009), American Psycho (2000) and The Matrix: Reloaded (2003). This video essay was made for the course Law, Cinema, Technology at the University of Leiden.
